Tooth Restoration Using The Aquacare And Sylc Powder
Air abrasion is definitely in our armamentarium at our office and helps in creating excellence in our restorations. Below are a few photos recently, within the past few weeks, in which I used it and documented it with photos.

Sylc, Bioactive Glass: The Benefits are Intrinsic

Stephen Mann has described the principles of biomineralization in 2001 as “how living organisms secrete inorganic minerals in an organized manner with exceptional physical properties by virtue of finely controlled microstructure, morphology and hierarchal organization of the minerals and accompanying organic material.1 That is, that the body is able to take selected inorganic materials when presented in the proper way and in the proper quantities and use them to essentially reconstruct solid structure, such as tooth structure.

My Best Handpiece
My Best Handpiece
If asked what handpiece in my office I would conside to be the most valuable, I would consider its characteristics first. For example, is it effective for the majority of hard-tissue procedures? Does it cause pain to my patients? Does it cause collateral or iatrogenic damage to teeth? Is it quiet? Does it create a clean cut and the best bond strength? Is it able to polish stains easily?

Minimally Invasive Dentistry - "Do No Harm"

Digital - Let the systems do the thinking...
Chatting at the week-end, over lunch on Saturday, with my wife and teenage daughter we got onto the subject of photography. We reminisced about film speeds (ASA100, 200, 400 etc) forgetting to set it on the camera correctly would ruin all the Christmas pictures of Aunt Mabel asleep in the armchair during the Queens speech - having over-indulged - again. We extolled the virtues of aperture settings (f stop) of how to improve depth of field - if this was required – to show the rest of the family having fun at Aunt Mabel's expense.

Fluid Abrasion an old story or a new one?
Back in the early 1990's Air Abrasion units were re-launched (they started life back in 1945) with great excitement, alongside Nd:YAG Lasers – only to cover their operators with powder! The KCP units launched at Alexandra Palace in 1990, were huge, expensive units plugged into the mains but what has changed since?
